Sporting 87 Football Club...

Sporting 87 is a Christian Football Club dedicated to playing football to the highest possible standards of competition, ability, and good conduct, The club is committed to developing the Christian growth of its members and being an ambassador of Christ to those it meets.

Sporting 87 FC was formed, as the name suggests, in 1987, to enable christians to play football in an environment that would provide a strong and noticeable witness to the local football community. Since those early days over 20 years ago, the club has developed and progressed enormously, recently being awarded FA Charter status for both the adult and youth teams.

The club has a tradition of playing football in the correct manner and within the spirit and laws of the game. The club welcomes both christians and non-christians who wish to be part of the club to join us.

Sporting 87 has three adult teams. The first and reserve teams play in the Suffolk and Ipswich League (SIL), while the A team play in the local St Edmundsbury Football League. There is training two nights a week taken by a UEFA B Licence coach.

Sporting 87 has over 100 boys aged from u11's to u16's playing for teams on Saturday mornings in the South Suffolk Youth Football League (SSYFL), with progression into the adult teams once boys reach 16. There is training each week by FA qualified coaches.

Over the years the club has received many awards. In recent seasons Sporting 87 has won the Suffolk FA Fairplay award for the past 3 years. In 2008/09 the Reserves gained promotion to SIL Division 4, with the 1st team finishing fourth in Division 2. Last season the 1st team reached the final of the Snailwell cup and won the National Christian Football Festival Trophy in Manchester. The 1st team and Reserves won the SIL fairplay award for the second year running. In 2009 Sporting 87 won the prestigious Suffolk FA Charter Club of the Year award.
